Who are the Savvy Park Runrz

We an England Athletics affiliated club; who are a group of runners of all abilities and other experiences, who came together to have fun, support and encourage one and feel better about ourselves both physically and mentally… and raise money for charity along the way.

Overview

We have weekly runs, where all levels are welcome. If you are a beginner, we have periodic Couch to 5k programmes – look out on our socials for the next one! Our philosophy is no matter how slow you go you are lapping those on the couch… so we are here to help you find the confidence… you have made the first stride and visited this page! 👍

Where are you based

We are based in Savile Park, Hightown, Castleford – and meet in the Cricket club car park.

When are your runs

Evening Runs – We meet on Monday and Wednesday at 18.30. During the winter months, runners are required to wear hi hiz. The routes are varied and include some out and back routes, to allow flexibility on distance with routes usually up to 8km. New runners are welcome to come along before signing up as members, please let us know or by contacting us either via Messenger on Facebook or info@savvyparkrunrz.co.uk

parkrun – You will see a number of our runners out on a Saturday morning at parkrun; your nearest parkrun are:
– Pontefract Park
– Rothwell Park
– Nostell Priory

Weekend Runs – Our runners regularly arrange social and training runs, these vary in distance and pace. There is always someone training for a race,

Track Nights – We arrange a monthly club track night and many of our member arrange interval sessions at Thornes Park, Wakefield.

Events

Throughout the year we hold events. These could include:
– Savvy Grand Prix (a series of races during the year)
– Savvy Naked 5k (no tech allowed, guess your time before you set off – the nearest wins
– Leeds Country Way Relay
– Christmas run
… and social events!

History

Did you know Dorothy Hyman (left) won Olympic medals in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in 1960 and 1964, plus countless other European and Commonwealth Games. She was also the winner of BBC Sport Personality Award in 1963… and coached at Savile Park, Castleford!
