Who are the Savvy Park RunrzWe are a newly England Athletics affiliated club; who are a group of runners of all abilities and other experiences, who came together to have fun, support and encourage one and feel better about ourselves both physically and mentally… and raise money for charity along the way.
OverviewWe have weekly runs, where all levels are welcome. But if you’re a total beginner then let us know as we run periodic Couch to 5k programmes – whether that’s as a snail or a strider… our philosophy is no matter how slow you go you are lapping those on the couch… so we are here to help you find the confidence… you have made the first stride and visited this page! 👍
Remember to follow us on Strava, Facebook and Instagram! 😎
Where are you basedWe are based in Savile Park, Hightown, Castleford – and meet in the Cricket club car park.
When are your runsEvening Runs – We currently hold a run Monday at 18.30 and Wednesday at 19.00. During the winter months, runners are required to wear hi hiz. The routes are currently out and back routes, to allow flexibility on distance with routes usually up to 8km. New runners are welcome to come along before signing up as members, please let us know or by contacting us either via Facebook or firstname.lastname@example.org
Park Runs – We are aware a number of runners take advantage of the Saturday morning Park Runs; your nearest Park Runs are:
– Pontefract Park
– Rothwell Park
– Nostell Priory
Weekend Runs – On occasions we have social runs, these will be flexible on the distance and location group sizes. Examples of these may include: Trail/Cross country e.g. The use of the local towpaths; St Aidens/Fairburn or distance road running.
Track Nights – We don’t have anything formally organised, but dependant on appetite and cost we will look in to this, possible venues are Thornes Park, Wakefield or John Charles, Hunslet.
EventsThroughout the year we plan to hold events. These could include:
– Bruce Smeaton 10k in May
– Stanley Ferry 10 miler (a lovely run down the towpaths… and maybe a drink!)
– Summer Beach Party/Summer Sizzler!
– Remembrance Sunday Poppy Run
– Elves Christmas Cheer Run!
… and there will be definitely some social events… we don’t just run!
HistoryDid you know Dorothy Hyman (left) won Olympic medals in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in 1960 and 1964, plus countless other European and Commonwealth Games. She was also the winner of BBC Sport Personality Award in 1963… and coached at Savile Park, Castleford!
Lead Runners and CoachingOur aim is to have Lead Runners and Coaches in place that are all different, with diverse lives, styles and backgrounds, but who are all ultimately kind, committed and inspirational. If that is something you have experience of, or want to get involved please speak with one of the team. If you want to help support in the club in others ways again please just let us know. #Togetherwearestronger
